What does the recent gold mining unrest mean for gold investors?

Last Wednesday, AngloGold Ashanti (JSE:ANG) (NYSE:AU) became the latest of  major gold mining companies to announce a major restructuring. Their shares dropped 16% in the wake of the announcing the need to raise $2.1 billion in a rights issue to spin its international assets into a new London-listed company. This move follows mining giant BHP Billiton’s (ASX:BHP) recent decision to split some of its less profitable assets into a new Australian-listed company.
